Sir Edward Leigh, the Conservative MP for Gainsborough, has welcomed the start of works improving the Scotter Ward in the town’s John Coupland Hospital. £3.5 million is being invested in improving bedrooms and shower rooms and enlarging the palliative care unit.
“Community hospitals play a vital role in keeping England healthy,” Sir Edward said, “and the John Coupland is at the heart of healthcare in Lincolnshire.”
“This latest work will make the hospital a much better experience for patients as well as staff,” the MP asserted. “It will improve that exceptionally useful middle ground between being seen in a general hospital and care from your GP.”
“Boris promised 40 new hospitals and the Government is honouring that commitment. We’ve got 70 hospital upgrades in the works and have seen 65 completed already.”
The MP said community hospitals proved “extremely useful” during the coronavirus epidemic and helped with the record-breaking vaccine rollout.
“I’m glad we are investing in the John Coupland Hospital and securing its place for future generations of people in Gainsborough and beyond.”
