Cllr Jessie Milne hands a cheque to members of Gainsborough Rowing Club

Gainsborough Rowing Club is set to benefit from funding from West Lindsey District Councillors' Initative Fund.

The £2,000 funding means the club can now purchase a second storage container to house their boats and other equipment.

For the last ten years club members have trained at rowing clubs in Lincoln and Doncaster after access to the Trent was lost, but plans are now underway to reinstate access to the river and reignite the town’s rowing heritage.

Cllr. Mrs. Jessie Milne presented the cheque to members of the club at its base at Roses Sports Ground in Gainsborough. Cllr. Mrs. Milne said:

“It gave me great pleasure to present the cheque to the rowing club on behalf of West Lindsey District Council. Our aim is to promote health and wellbeing in our community.

“By giving our support to the Gainsborough Rowing Club, local people will be able to take part in a great sport. But once the slipway is built, Gainsborough Fire Service will also be able to launch its boats onto the River Trent more quickly and easily, helping to save lives too.”

Mr. Dave Carter, Development Officer at the rowing club, added:

“Gainsborough Rowing Club has worked tirelessly over the last decade to secure new partners to enable this historic rowing club realise access to the River Trent once again.

“In addition to the welcome support from West Lindsay District Council, architects Frith Moxon and civil engineers HBPW Consulting have also kindly volunteered their services to assist with the complicated technical drawings and calculations required for the tidal access system.

“The club is grateful for the support that it has received especially from Councillor Milne. These are the first stages in the relaunch of the club and we look forward to having access to the water in the near future.”
